Tilden for Brakes Car Care Centers, the 75-year old, Long Island-based complete automotive service and repair company, has begun an aggressive campaign to begin franchising centers domestically and internationally. Under the new management team of Tilden Associates, Inc., the company expects to open 15-20 Tilden for Brakes Car Care Centers a year for the next two to three years, with projected gross annual sales of $30 million by the end of the year 2000.
   In 1996, then sole owner Sidney Tilden awarded franchises to existing loyal store managers. From that point, during the following 31 years, only two new franchises have been added to the chain - one to a loyal employee who worked for more than twenty years and the second to a longtime vendor/supplier. "All that is changing now," explains Robert Baskind, president of Tilden Associates, Inc. "A national multimedia advertising campaign in magazines, newspapers, and on radio is getting the message out that your road to success begins by purchasing a Tilden for Brakes Car Care Center franchise."
   Enthusiasm for the franchise concept has already started with many mechanical and non-mechanical professionals seriously considering opening Tilden franchises. According to the Tilden management team, you don't need mechanical experience to run a successful Tilden business. Potential franchisees can open a Tilden Center for as little as $60,000 down.
